What is Soccer Speed? Soccer Speed was developed by track coach Lee Pantas, and is designed to teach young athletes the fundamentals of proper sprinting and starting technique. Instruction covers basic sprint biomechanics and sprinting form, individual correction of major running faults, starting and reaction skills, and speed development drills specific to soccer.

How long are Soccer Speed Summer Camp Sessions? One hour in the evening, from 6:00-7:00 for U10-U13, and from 7:00-8:00 for U14-U18.

What is the earliest age for participation in Soccer Speed training?
Summer Camp and Team Clinics -10 years of age. 9 years old depending on athlete's ability level.

How many sessions are there in the summer camp? Six one hour sessions, usually on Tuesday and Thursday evenings over three weeks.

Where is the Summer Camp held? John B. Lewis Soccer Complex, Azalea Park, Asheville, NC.

Are there age groups for the summer camp? Yes, U10 -U13 (6:00-7:00 pm)  and U11-U14 (7:00-8:00 pm).

My athlete is 9 years old. Can they participate in the U10-U13 age group sessions?
Yes, but if they struggle to keep up, and a mutual decision between the Soccer Speed coaching staff and the parents is reached that to continue would be frustrating and non-beneficial to the athlete, a full refund will be made.

Can parents and soccer coaches stay to watch the sessions? Yes, they are encouraged to do so.

Does Soccer Speed offer a guarantee that my soccer player will get faster from participating in the summer camp? Yes, a full refund of the camp tuition will be made if your athlete does not get faster as a sprinter. To date, this has never happened.

What happens if my athlete can not make all of the six sessions? The Soccer Speed Summer Camp program is designed to allow for missed sessions. There is considerable repetition of previously learned skills from session to session. Repetition of skills learned over many sessions is the key to Soccer Speed's success in helping young athletes learn to sprint properly. One session camps and clinics, while valuable in some ways in developing speed in athletes, are limited in making fundamental and permanent change in running technique. The Soccer Speed summer camp, because the sessions are spread out, and the athletes are given the opportunity to practice the skills learned in other venues, is the best way to effect permanent change in how an athlete sprints.

Will there be a makeup session for those athletes who miss any sessions? Yes. A bonus/makeup session is usually held a few weeks after the regular sessions end.

The Soccer Speed summer camp has begun and my athlete will miss the first two sessions. Is it too late for him or her to join? No, the first three sessions are essentially identical in material covered, and the Soccer Speed coaching staff will insure that the late joining athlete is brought up to the level of the other campers. After the third session, it is usually too late to join although there are always exceptions depending on the athlete. Usually this is with the older athletes.

What will my camper need to bring to camp? 1) Running shoes or indoor soccer shoes. Outdoor cleats will not be needed, 2) Water or sports drink .

What happens if there is lightning? We stop camp immediately and wait until any danger from  lightning has passed.

How will I know if camp is cancelled for any reason? A message will be posted on the home page of the Soccer Speed website. You can call Coach Pantas anytime at 828-779-1569. Camp will always be held if it is just a light rain or intermittent showers. A major storm day however will cancel camp and a makeup day will be added onto the summer schedule.
